Magnesium and Osteoarthritis

How Magnesium Has Helped Me I have suffered for years with Osteoarthritis in both my knees. It was probably a result of years of long hours walking on concrete floors in the hospital, and given my propensity for “over-doing” I have not always been kind to my body. My knees have been injected numerous times with steroids, arthroscoped to “clean up” the mess, and injected with ”Synvisc“ (http://osteoarthritis.about.com/od/osteoarthritistreatments/a/hyaluronic_acid.htm) all in hopes of putting off knee replacement as long as I could. I paid $750 (out of pocket) for an “unloader” brace that I couldn’t keep in place (it currently resides on the shelf in my closet). I tried to drink some absolutely vile substance (a “natural” anti-inflammatory) that cost $65...

Athletic Till I Die!

How Athleticism Has Shaped Who I Am Does receiving an athletic scholarship deem one to be an “Athlete” or just “Athletic”? I always thought that since I was being paid to play (actually my education was paid – but really my employer was my volleyball coach) that I was an athlete. I would see all the NFL players and NBA players who all were given college scholarships and thus given exorbitant amounts of money to play professionally, and I said, “Wow, they are athletes!” Well, as I get older my view has changed. One could be an athlete at some point in their lives but it seems to me that as most age, that tag of “athlete” doesn’t fit anymore....

My Journey into Magnesium-Based Supplements

How I Got Started... In the Beginning: I wanted my back pain to go away. Due to my profession I cannot use scheduled narcotics during the day. Given my specialty of anesthesiology and critical care medicine I have worked long on providing better living through chemistry for others. I choose non-narcotics when able for pain control, and less sedating agents for relaxation. But therein lies the conflict. Back pain, go AWAY! Several years ago I had back surgery with a fusion. I used pain medication and muscle relaxants in a scheduled manner to help the recovery process. Initially this regimen worked well as the pain was persistent. Prior to surgery I was still able to walk, afterwards I could not...

It helps our bodies breathe, it helps us walk, talk and and think. It is available in various forms as a vitamin. Over-the-counter forms in most drugstores typically comes as magnesium oxide. However this form of magnesium tends to have a laxative effect the more one ingests (in higher doses). Other forms of oral magnesium are available that are better absorbed and create less G.I. upset. (Please refer to Dr. Carolyn Dean's book "the magnesium miracle" for an in-depth discussion of magnesium.) One way to avoid the G.I. effects of...

What’s in Magnesium Cream?

A Look Inside Magnesium Cream Any available transdermal form of magnesium whether it be as magnesium oil or magnesium cream is simply an intent to increase the amount of magnesium in one's body. How and where it is applied determines the relative response of each person. There is no magnesium cream currently available of which I am aware which is touting its ability to cure any disease process. That being said however there are a lot of different products on the market. So why would we even think about moving forward with yet another product? Simply because it is ...simple.
